UNIPORT Hosts West African University Games (WAUG) 2018

WAUG 2018 – The West African University Games (WAUG) 2018 14th edition is here and University of Port Harcourt, (Uniport) is the host community with the theme : SPORTS IN WEST AFRICA UNIVERSITIES AND WEST AFRICA UNIVERSITIES IN SPORTS.

West African University Games (WAUG) 2018

WAUG, the Olympics Games of West Africa students, is the biggest and most competitive games among West African students. The WAUG Games are aimed at fostering greater friendship among youths of the West African sub-region in addition to providing an opportunity for West African Universities to contribute to the development of highly skilled elite athletes among their students as done by Universities all over the world.

The West African University Games (WAUG) are organized every 4 years. This year’s edition features 34 west Africa universities and a total of 32 game events, featuring both male and female tournaments in:

  1. Athletics,
  2. Badminton,
  3. Basketball,
  4. Chess,
  5. Cricket,
  6. Football,
  7. Hockey,
  8. Judo,
  9. Squash,
  10. Tennis,
  11. Handball,
  12. Swimming,
  13. Table tennis,
  14. Taekwando,
  15. Volleyball,
  16. Scrabble.

How to Participate in West African University Games (WAUG)

To be eligible to participate in the West African University Games (WAUG), the athlete MUST be a full time student of an already registered and competing university. However, the following categories of students are NOT eligible to participate in the tournaments:

  •  Certificate/Diploma students
  •  Pre-degree student
  • Diploma student
  • Part time student

WAUG 2018 EVENT SCHEDULE

  • Arrival – Wednesday 31st October, 2018
  • Opening Ceremony – 3rd November, 2018
  • Closing Ceremony – 10th November, 2018
  • Departure – 11th November, 2018
