SECU means State Employees’ Credit Union. It is a North Carolina state chartered credit union with headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. The union is regulated by the Credit Union Division of the Department of Commerce.
SECU Foundation Continuing Education has opened their applications for people to apply for scholarship 2022. The goal of this scholarship program is to bring about assistance in eliminating financial hindrances of various students seeking to further their education or simply upgrade their skills.
The foundation created a platform In 2019 called the SECU Bridge to Career Program, the essence of this program is to totally remove financial barriers for both students, unemployed and underemployed adults, military veterans, and members of the National Guard seeking to obtain state-regulated or recognized credentials with marketable job skills, they believe that this will lead to a sustainable wage careers within their local communities.
SECU Scholarship
The foundation offers scholarship for Two $5K /$1,250 per semester to college and high school students respectively. Amazingly, the scholarship award is renewable for the 2nd Year. All students who are Interested should contact the Continuing Education Department at their local NC Community College for more information.
Most community issues have been identified and addressed through the SECU foundation initiative. Primarily, the foundation promotes local and community development in North Carolina through high impact projects in the areas of education, housing, healthcare, and human services.

Scholarship Program For High School
The scholarship program of SECO is tagged “people helping people” and this initiative is targeted to assisting North Carolina public high school students attend college to study for a period of four years. There are about 115 North Carolina education agencies and each of them will receive at least one scholarship which is estimated to be $10,000. This amount is paid on installments up to eight semesters basically for seniors to attend the university of North Carolina.
Note: Applicants for this scholarship will be selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee, however, they must be found to have met all eligibility criteria.
Individual applications are not reviewed by the Foundation, in the sense that all scholarship applicant’s information must be submitted by the Scholarship Selection Committee at each LEA.
The Community College Scholarship Program
The community college scholarship program of SECU Foundation is for two years, this program was established to help students in each of the community colleges in the North Carolina Community College System. In this community college program, there are 116 two-year scholarships that are valued at $5,000 each, available to be awarded.
The scholarship is awarded in a way that each North Carolina community college will receive two scholarships, representing an annual financial commitment to the entire community college system of up to $580,000.
Students with limited financial aid stand a better chance to be selected as preferences are given to such. Also, applicants whose parents and family members are public sector employees living and working in NC will also be given preferences
Applicable for full-time student who is a high school graduate or has at least completed the General Education Development (GED) program, and enrolled in an associate degree, diploma or certificate program.
Also, scholarship applicants with academic excellence may receive the scholarship up to a maximum of four consecutive semesters but must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.
All applicants must show sound academic achievement with a 2.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale or attain a score of 3,000 on the GED test.
Applicants must be eligible for in-state tuition and display good leadership skills, excellence in character, integrity, and community involvement.
The applicant must agree to continue at the community college were enrolled at the time of the scholarship award for the duration of the scholarship, for four consecutive fall/spring semesters or upon completion of a diploma program.

State Employees’ Credit Union Scholarship Requirements
- Applicants who desires to be eligible for this scholarship must:
- Be a U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident.
- Applicants must provide his/her Social Security card and a valid driver’s license or ID
- Be in one of the following target groups: unemployment insurance claimants, unemployed & underemployed adult, military veteran or spouse.
- Applicant must at time of application be enrolled in a short-term training program
- Always note that preference will be given to students with no access to financial aid from other programs
