The NYSC scheme was created in a bid in 1973 to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war.

NYSC which is an abbreviation for “National Youth Service Corps” is a one – year compulsory program for students who studied in Nigeria or students abroad but intends to work in Nigeria.

But the national service year has been criticised often for being a waste of time for corps members. Corps members have also talked about being underpaid or not paid at all during their service year.
